Children’s Privacy Notice
Effective October 19, 2026 · Version 1.3 · Operated by Ashlar Enterprises LLC
How LifeAnchor handles information about children and teens that parents and guardians add, and the rights parents have over it.
1.At a glance
This notice explains how Ashlar Enterprises LLC (“Ashlar”, “we”, “us”), the operator of LifeAnchor, handles personal information about children under 13, as required by the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), and about teens aged 13 to 17. It supplements our Privacy Policy.
2.How children come to be in LifeAnchor
LifeAnchor accounts can be opened only by adults aged 18 or older. A child or teen can use LifeAnchor only as a member of a household, added by the household’s primary account holder or a household admin who is their parent or legal guardian.
- Children cannot create their own accounts or sign themselves up.
- We do not ask a child for an email address and do not send emails to child members. If a child is to sign in, the parent chooses the child’s username and password; the child signs in with those under “Child sign-in”. The parent can change them at any time, which signs the child out of every device.
- The parent decides what information to enter about the child. Date of birth is optional.
Ashlar is the operator responsible for children’s information in LifeAnchor. You can contact us at Ashlar Enterprises LLC, 9905 S Pennsylvania Ave, Suite A, Oklahoma City, OK 73159 · (405) 957-9360 · [email protected].
3.Parental consent and how we verify the parent
By adding a child to the household, the parent or guardian consents to our collecting, using and disclosing the child’s information as described in this notice and our Privacy Policy. A child’s profile can be created only from inside a signed-in adult account, so the person giving consent is the adult who opened the household account and agreed to our Terms of Service, which allow only a parent or legal guardian to add a minor.
When a parent contacts us about a child’s information, we confirm the request comes from the household’s account holder — usually by corresponding through the email address on the account — before we disclose or change anything. We may ask for more information where needed to be sure.
A parent can agree to our collection and use of the child’s information without agreeing to its disclosure to outside services that are not needed to run LifeAnchor. For example, a parent can choose not to connect an AI provider, a mailbox or a health device for a child.
4.Home School: the signed consent
Home School is different, because a child can use it on their own login: marking work done, tapping “present today”, and (as these features arrive) writing notes and attaching files to lessons. Before we collect anything from a child in Home School, a parent must sign a Home School consent for that child, and until a parent does, the child cannot use Home School on their own login. Everything the parent enters still works.
- What the parent signs. A notice explaining exactly what we collect from the child and why, and a separate disclaimer. Each is read to the end and acknowledged separately. The first time, the parent also agrees to use electronic records and signatures, and can ask for a paper copy at no charge.
- How we confirm it is the parent. The parent types their full name and re-enters their own LifeAnchor password, which also works on the child’s device without signing the child out. We then email the parent the full signed text straight away and send a follow-up email a day later, so a parent who did not sign can tell us.
- What we keep as the record. The exact text signed, its version and a fingerprint (SHA-256) of it, the typed name, the date and time, and the IP address and browser used. Nobody, including us, can change a signed record.
- Every school year. A consent covers one school year; we ask again for each new one.
- Withdrawing. A parent can withdraw the consent at any time from the Home School Students tab. The child then can no longer add anything on their own login and their Home School view closes until a parent signs again. Records already kept stay available to the parent until the parent deletes them.
- Sharing needs its own consent. Sharing a child’s Home School records with a co-op, or releasing a transcript, needs a separate consent that the Home School consent does not include. For those we will also verify the parent’s identity with a government-issued ID check, through an identity-verification provider that will be listed on our Subprocessors page before that check is used.
5.What we collect about children
We collect only what a parent, guardian or other household member enters, plus a small amount of technical information when the child uses LifeAnchor. Depending on the features the family uses, that can include:
- Name and household role, and an optional date of birth.
- Profile details the parent chooses to add, such as height, weight, clothing sizes, blood type, emergency contact, doctor, insurance, pharmacy and school details.
- Chores and rewards assigned to and completed by the child.
- Homeschool records, such as lessons, transcripts and portfolio work, and — once a parent has signed the Home School consent — what the child records on their own login: work marked done, attendance taps, and the notes and files they add to lessons. Child notes and attachments are stored encrypted, and location data is removed from photos before they are stored.
- Co-op information. If the family joins a homeschool co-op, the child’s label and bio in that co-op, which other families in the co-op can see.
- Health records the parent logs, such as medications, allergies, conditions, vitals, body measurements and immunisation records. See our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy.
- Documents a parent uploads to the Vault, such as a birth certificate, Social Security card, passport or immunisation record.
- Calendar events, reminders and other household content that involve the child.
- Content the child creates when using LifeAnchor, if the parent lets them use features such as chores, lists or the calculator.
- Technical information recorded when the child uses LifeAnchor — IP address and browser type in security and audit logs, and simple records of which features were used.
We do not collect a child’s device location or biometric data, and we do not ask a child to give more information than is needed to use a feature.
6.How we use children’s information
We use children’s information only to provide LifeAnchor to the family — to store and show the information to the household members permitted to see it, to run the features the family uses — and to keep LifeAnchor secure, support the family and comply with law. We do not use it to build profiles for advertising, to send marketing, or for any purpose unrelated to running LifeAnchor for the family.
7.Who can see a child’s information
- The household, according to the household’s settings and the permissions the account holder sets.
- Health information. A parent or guardian (the head or co-head) can see a minor’s non-sensitive health information. Sensitive categories — mental health, reproductive health, health documents, device integrations and the health timeline — need an explicit grant, even for a parent.
- Vault documents are private to their owner. A guardian can see a child’s documents where a guardianship has been set up in LifeAnchor.
- Other co-op families can see a child’s label and bio in a co-op the family joins.
- Anyone with access to a child’s Emergency Card, if the parent sets one up, for a limited time.
8.Who we share it with
- Service providers that run LifeAnchor for us, such as our database and hosting providers, under obligations to use the information only to provide their services. They are listed on our Subprocessors page.
- AI providers, only through the family’s own account. LifeAnchor does not supply AI. If a parent connects the family’s own AI account and a household member uses an AI feature, information that feature needs may go to that provider. No AI feature is available to a child under 13, so none of a young child’s own requests are sent to an AI provider. Members under 18 get stricter rules in the AI coach, and Finance AI is for adults only. When an adult uses an AI feature — for example, to plan a homeschool lesson — that adult decides what goes into it, so we recommend leaving out a child’s personal details. AI features never read a child’s own Home School notes or attachments. See our AI Notice.
- Services the parent connects, such as a health device, under the parent’s own account with that service.
- Authorised Ashlar staff, only as needed to support the family, secure the service or meet legal obligations, using controlled and logged tools.
- When required by law or to protect the safety of a child or others.
We never sell children’s information, share it for targeted or behavioural advertising, or give it to advertisers or data brokers. LifeAnchor shows no ads and uses no analytics or tracking tools.
9.Your rights as a parent
A parent or legal guardian can at any time:
- Review the personal information we hold about their child.
- Correct or update it — most of it directly in LifeAnchor.
- Delete it, or delete the child’s account.
- Refuse further collection or use of the child’s information. Some features may stop working for that child as a result.
- Withdraw consent to the sharing of the child’s information with outside services, such as by disconnecting an AI provider or device, and withdraw the Home School consent from the Home School Students tab.
In the app, the account holder can edit a child’s profile and records, change what other household members can see, and remove a child from the household. Removing a member deactivates the member’s account and detaches it from the household; to have the data deleted, email us.
To review or delete a child’s information or stop further collection, email [email protected]. We verify that the request comes from the child’s parent or guardian on the account and respond within 45 days (extended once by up to 45 more days where reasonably necessary, with notice). Once we have verified a request to delete a child’s information, we delete it within 30 days. If we decline a request, you can appeal by replying with “Appeal”.
10.If information was collected without a parent’s consent
If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without a parent’s or guardian’s consent — for example, if a child signed up by claiming to be an adult — we will delete it promptly and close the account. If you believe this has happened, please tell us at [email protected].
11.Teens and turning 18
Teens aged 13 to 17 are also added by a parent or guardian, and the same protections apply: no sale, no targeted advertising, sensitive health categories need an explicit grant, and stricter rules in the AI coach.
As a member approaches 18, LifeAnchor gives notice about six months ahead. When the member turns 18, their records become their own, and they can split into their own LifeAnchor account. From then on, they control their own information and privacy rights under our Privacy Policy.
12.How long we keep children’s information (our written retention policy)
This section is our written data retention policy for children’s information under COPPA (16 C.F.R. § 312.10). We collect children’s information only to provide the household features the parent turns on, and we keep it only as long as reasonably necessary for that purpose. We never keep children’s information indefinitely.
| Information | Why we keep it | When we delete it |
|---|---|---|
| Name, household role, optional date of birth and profile details (such as sizes, emergency contact, doctor, insurance and school details) | To show the child as a member of the household and fill in the features the parent uses, such as the Emergency Card and school records | Kept while the child is an active household member and the parent keeps these features in use; deleted within 30 days of a deletion event listed below |
| Chores and rewards, calendar events, reminders, lists and other household content involving the child, and content the child creates | To run the chores, calendar, lists and other household features the parent turns on for the family | Kept while the child is an active household member and the parent keeps these features in use; deleted within 30 days of a deletion event listed below |
| Homeschool records, portfolio work and co-op information | To run the homeschool and co-op features the parent uses for the child’s education, and to help the family keep the records their state requires | Kept at least as long as the family’s state requires homeschool records to be kept, and until the parent deletes them. A parent can delete notes and attachments at any time; before the state’s minimum period ends we warn them to download a copy first. Otherwise deleted within 30 days of a deletion event listed below |
| Record of each Home School deletion (who deleted what kind of item, and when; never the content) | To show what was deleted and by whom | For the life of the household plus 3 years |
| Health records and Vault documents | To keep the child’s health record, medication list and Emergency Card, and to store documents the parent uploads | Kept while the child is an active household member and the parent keeps these features in use; deleted within 30 days of a deletion event listed below |
| Technical information (IP address and browser type in security logs, and records of which features were used) | To keep LifeAnchor and the household secure | Deleted within 30 days of a deletion event listed below, except entries in the audit log of access to health information, which is kept as described in our Data Retention page |
| Records of the parent’s consent (who consented, how, when, which version of this notice, and for Home School the exact text signed and its fingerprint) | To show that a parent consented, as COPPA requires | For the life of the household plus 3 years, including after the child’s other information is deleted |
A deletion event is any of these: we verify a parent’s request to delete the child’s information; the household is deleted; or the child is removed from the household and the parent asks us to delete the child’s information. Copies in our backups are gone within 30 days as the backups expire, and backups are never restored except for disaster recovery. The few records we keep after a deletion, such as a record of the parent’s request, are listed in our Data Retention page.
13.Security
We protect children’s information with the same safeguards as all LifeAnchor data, including encrypted connections, database row-level security that is regularly tested, extra encryption for Vault documents and identity numbers, and logged staff access. Children do not have two-step verification, so parents should keep their own account secure and choose a child password that is not used anywhere else. Repeated wrong passwords on a Home School consent are limited, and the household’s heads are emailed when they happen. See our Security page.
14.Changes to this notice
If we make a material change to how we collect, use or disclose children’s information, we will notify parents and, where COPPA requires, ask for consent again before applying the change to information about their child.
